See & Do. Leisurely stroll through De Jordaan and discover why everyone is always raving about the neighborhood. Hear Anne Frank’s story at the Anne Frank House or stop by the Noorderkerk, originally opened in 1623 for the working-class residents.Dig a little deeper and discover the many beautiful, little gardens called “hofjes,” often hidden from plain sight.. I do my best to discuss history as well as some charming cafes, restaurants, hofjes and streets that I always love to stop into. The walking tour of de Jordaan should take about 1.5 hours. The total distance covered is 2 kilometers (~1 mile), but I encourage you to slow down. Map at the bottom of the post.

Quartier Jordaan à Amsterdam Le quartier à ne pas manquer
Amsterdam was known for its tolerance towards other political and religious beliefs. The Jordaan was originally a poor district, with small houses and many inhabitants. Around 1900 the population was estimated around 80.000. Imagine all those large families stuffed in the small houses the Jordaan is known for.. A must-visit when in Amsterdam, Anne Frank House sits in the heart of Jordaan, on the Prinsengracht canal. The museum, built within Anne and her family’s hiding place during WWII, is an emotional homage to the diarist and a commemorative monument to a terrible time in Europe’s history.
